The time has finally come, the Squad Kickstarter campaign is now live! The campaign will be running until June 27th at 1:17AM EDT. During the campaign the Squad team hopes to meet their goal of $149,718 (184k CAD). If the opening day of the campaign is any indication, they’ll have no problem meeting and exceeding their goal as at the time of posting the campaign has a total of $59,156 in pledges. UPDATE: As of 10:00 AM on May 29th the Squad Kickstarter campaign has $121,876 of their $149,718 goal.
For those of you who are unaware of what Squad is, it is an online multiplayer first-person shooter that aims to capture combat realism through communication and team play. The game will feature large open maps combined with strong squad cohesion mechanics, vehicles and player-constructed bases create a heart-thumping, visceral gaming experience which mixes organized tactical multi-squad planning with split second decision-making in real world scale firefights, with up to 50 players per side.
Squad is considered by many to be the successor to Project Reality in everything but name and based off of what we’ve seen so far, I have to agree. It was inspired by Project Reality: BF2 and is being developed by some current and former members of the Project Reality development team. As many of you know we at CIA hosted a popular PR server for a long period of time and we hope to have a successful venture into Squad to some degree when the opportunity presents itself.
